Several members of HART are authors of a new pre-print on ethics. It takes an in-depth look at the historical and ethical framework that has guided medical practices for centuries—from the Hippocratic Oath to modern legal standards like the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki. It highlights the ethical deficit seen during the covid era and the need for a return to rigorous ethical practices that prioritise patient rights and the importance of informed consent in all medical interventions.
Building on this need, the article introduces a novel tool designed to enhance the communication between healthcare providers and patients, presenting clear, quantifiable data on the risks and benefits of medical treatments. This tool is proposed as a crucial step towards empowering patients, ensuring they can make truly informed decisions about their healthcare. This initiative not only serves to protect individual autonomy but also reiterates the critical role of fully informed consent as the cornerstone of trust and ethical integrity in the medical profession.
