Government report overlooks the butterfly effects of lockdowns
The Health & Social Care committee joined forces with the Science & Technology committee to report on the handling of the pandemic. A full enquiry is promised for next year, but the committee members rightly felt it important to take an earlier look to see if lessons could be learned in a more timely fashion.
Their report, running to 138 pages, plus list of witnesses, makes depressing reading. They do have several recommendations that need to be urgently taken up. But perhaps more concerning is not what is included but what is completely missing from the report, such as any critique of the effects of lockdowns or indeed any cost/benefit analysis.
